Little Princess succumbs to Leukemia after treatment in India

A four-year old girl, whose plight was first highlighted by Nairobi News in October 2015 when her father appealed for help, succumbed to Leukemia while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

When he story was first told, Princess Josephine Macharia was in India with her mother undergoing treatment at Artemis Hospital and the family needed to raise Sh4.7 million for her treatment.

Due to lack of funds, the two returned to the country in December 2015, having only undergone a quarter of the required treatment sessions in India.

Princess later fell ill and was admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital where she had been undergoing treatment until her demise on Tuesday last week.

STRONG-WILLED

The little girl will be buried on Friday at her grandfather’s farm in Kangaita Village, Kirinyaga County.

She started ailing in March 2014 and was diagnosed with Leukemia in September the same year.

During an emotional interview her father, Julius Macharia, narrated how he had sold off all his assets to finance the numerous chemotherapy sessions his daughter had gone through.

He had also fundraised from family and friends to pay for a percentage of the funds used to send the little girl and her mother to India.

The strong-willed girl would often tell her father, “Daddy sitakufa,” words that kept the family going for the last two years.
