Woman in court for scalding her 8-year-old niece with boiling water

A woman who scalded her eight-year-old niece with boiling water for spending Sh50 on chips has been charged in court with causing grievous harm.

Rebecca Kwamboka has been accused of committing the offence on July 23, 2020 at Fuata Nyayo slums in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.

BOUGHT CHIPS

The child had been left alone in the house without food and took the cash which she used to buy chips at a nearby kiosk.

The suspect is said to have returned in the afternoon and started assaulting the minor while boiling water with an electric heater to burn her.

She then splashed the boiling water on the minor injuring her on the face, shoulder, chest and hands.

After spending the night in the house with her injuries, the following morning, the child was locked her inside the house by the suspect who proceeded to work.

DENIED CHARGES

The minor was rescued by a Nyumba Kumi official after a neighbour who heard the commotion reported the incident.

The Nyumba Kumi official broke into the house and found the minor writhing in pain and rushed her to hospital.

Kwamboka denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani of the Kibera Law Courts claiming the incident was an accident.

The accused was granted a Sh100,000 bond with a surety of similar amount and an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000 with the case set to be mentioned on August 14, 2020.
