Where have all Kenya Mpya commuter buses disappeared to?


Commuters using the Thika Superhighway were on Tuesday left with question marks after all Kenya Mpya buses went missing from the route and their designated bus stops.

Kenya Mpya buses, which are operated by the Neo Kenya Limited company, were conspicuously absent and many commuters who were waiting to board them at their usual termini being forced to use buses operated by other saccos and companies.

The firm instead issued a statement explaining that all its buses and staff would not be operating on the designated route on Tuesday as the operators were in mourning.

“We wish to inform you that we will not be available to offer our services on the 30th of April 2019 as we will be morning the loss of one of our directors,” read the statement in part.

Passengers who normally the Kenya Mpya buses were on Tuesday forced to dig deeper into their pockets as the available buses hiked fares to take advantage of their absence amid the back-to-school rush.

Long queues were witnessed at the Munyu Road terminus in the city’s Central Business District, with buses plying Thika-Nairobi route charging Sh100 during off-peak hours on Tuesday.

Kenya Mpya buses are set to resume operations on Wednesday morning.
