Nairobi men most adulterous – survey
A new national survey by the government has revealed that Nairobians have the highest percentage of multiple sex partners in the country.
According to the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2014, about one in every five men in Nairobi aged between 15 and 49 years is cheating on his sex partner.
Nairobians reported the highest percentage of multiple partners at 4 percent for women and 19 percent for men.
The survey was conducted by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Health and the National AIDS Control Council.
Nationally, the number of men cheating on their partners increased by about a half, from 9 per cent to 13 per cent. There was no notable change in the number of women cheating on their partners.
Having two or more partners is more common among divorced, separated, or widowed women and men.
CONDOM USE
Shockingly though, is that condom use among those with two or more partners in the last 12 months was lowest among married women and men.
According to the survey findings, Kenyan women are giving birth to less children than their mothers, with the national average now standing at about four children.
This is the lowest fertility rate ever recorded in the country and is a decline from the births per woman in the mid-1970s which stood at eight.
CHILD BIRTHS
The counties with the lowest child births per woman are Kirinyaga (2.3) followed by Nyeri, Kiambu, and Nairobi, all with an average rate of 2.7.
The counties with the highest fertility rate are Wajir (7.8), West Pokot (7.2), Turkana (6.9), and Samburu (6.3).
Prevalence of early childbearing is highest in the Nyanza region followed by Rift Valley and Coast. It is lowest in Central and North Eastern region.
Central region has the highest contraceptive prevalence rate (73 percent) followed by Eastern region (70 percent). Contraceptive use is lowest in the North Eastern region (3 percent).
