Kirubi shares his cancer journey, says it takes more than prayers to cure – VIDEO
After a prolonged period of speculation, business tycoon Chris Kirubi has come out to confirm that he has been battling cancer.
Mr Kirubi, who in 2017 spent several months in the United States where he received specialized treatment, however did not disclose what kind of cancer he is being treated for.
When he returned home in 2018, images of a frail-looking Kirubi sparked much speculations over his health status on social media.
In a video clip he shared on Monday on social media, Kirubi urged members of the public to go frequent screenings to ensure they are safe while at the same time reminding them that the deadly disease can be cured, but not by prayers alone.
“See me as a reminder that cancer can be cured. I’m appealing to you as one of the victims to make sure that you do not have to undergo a major attack of cancer. Let’s make a motto to defeat cancer,” he says in the video.
“Prayers help, but prayers alone won’t cure cancer. God helps those who help themselves and to help ourselves we need to check our status,” said the industrialist.

Kirubi also pointed out that it is very hard to manage stage three and four cancer.
“Cancer is not devastating if it is discovered early. If it is discovered in the first or second stage it is possible to cure it. Do not allow the cancer to get to the third stage… fourth stage because it becomes difficult for the doctors to cure it,” he said.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also weighed in on the matter saying cancer is a very sensitive subject.
“The subject of cancer is one that is very dear to my heart. I know that cancer diagnosis can be very devastating for the person who is receiving the news because I have been on the receiving end,” Sonko said on his Facebook page.
Mr Kirubi, who is in his seventies, has wide-ranging business interests in publicly listed as well as private companies.
He is the single-largest shareholder of the Nairobi Securities Exchange traded Centum Investments.
Kirubi is one of Kenya’s most prolific businessmen and holds leadership positions in at least 10 companies and organisations, including a non-executive directorship at Centum Investments.
