A hawker was on Thursday morning squashed to death by two matatus at Makadara area along Jogoo road.

The woman, one of the numerous hawker who ply their trade along the busy road, was sandwiched between the two moving matatus.

Eye witnesses said the victim was on her usual hustles selling the sweets as she moved from on vehicle to the other before she met her death.

“She was hawking her sweets as usual but unfortunately got sandwiched between the two vehicles,” said Priscidia Ndunge.

The scene of the accident was a grisly sight with the victim – in a blue top – lying lifeless in a pool of blood facing downwards with her packs of sweets and chewing gums strewn on the tarmac.

One of the matatus involved in the accident belongs to the Embassava sacco.

DANGEROUS BUSINESS

By Thursday noon, photos of the lady lying on the tarmac road were making rounds on social media, with some Kenyans On Twitter pointing out that hawkers endanger their lives in their daily hustles.

Here are some of the reactions:

“This hawkers sell their wares dangerously between vehicles,” said Njoro.

Kevin Khaemba said “The hustle is real. But endangering one’s life like the hawkers do is sad. Unaezafikiria they’re cousins with those vehicles.”

“So so bad may she Rest in Peace… These matatu drivers don’t think at all when they get into that seat,” tweeted Austinasp.
