January 24th, 2015 1 min read

Kenya Premier League side AFC Leopards will next week travel to Uganda for pre-season friendlies with Ugandan clubs AS Villa and Vipers.

Club Organizing Secretary Timothy Lilumbi told Nairobi News the team will shift camp to Mumias this week after playing Nairobi based side Lang’ata Combined on Wednesday as part of their preparation for 2015 KPL season.

After the Uganda trip Ingwe will face National Super League sides Vihiga United, West Sugar FC, Nzoia United and KPL outfit Kakamega Homeboyz.

This comes in the backdrop of the club signing a two-year kit sponsorship deal with sportswear firm Edge Sports and Apparel worth at total sum of Sh6 million spread over the same period.

Under the arrangement, Edge Sports will have the responsibility of kiting the 12-time league champions with training kit as well as home and away jerseys besides being responsible for stocking, sale and marketing with the revenue collected shared by the two outfits.

TURBULENT PERIOD

Leopards has been undergoing turbulent period with operations almost on the brink of grinding to a halt because of a major financial crisis.

In October last year Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) froze the club’s accounts owing to non-compliance with tax regulations.

As a result the club sponsor was unable to remit payments and the club failed to pay its playing unit and technical bench their salaries and allowances accruing to two months.

The club has also lost a number of key players who have moved to other teams during the current transfer window.

However, some of  the players who had requested release among them forward Jacob Keli and goal keeper Martin Musalia have since resumed training with Humphrey Mieno missing in action at their Gigiri training ground in Nairobi.
