Leopards officials now shift blame on club sponsors

AFC Leopards officials now say the club sponsor is responsible for the club’s  current financial shortcomings. The club has failed to clear both the playing staff and technical bench’s outstanding salaries and allowances since October, leading to wide spread criticism from stakeholders.

This situation had earlier been attributed to the decision by Kenya Revenue Authority to freeze the club’s accounts owing to a non-compliance. But a senior club official Nairobi News spoke to but who wished not to be named, spinned another angle into the stand-off.

“We cleared every issue with KRA on December 22, 2014 and they then gave us cleared documentations which we forwarded to the sponsor on the very day. Now am told the sponsor (Mumias Sugar) has financial problems as well, they have not even paid there own salaries. Surely, you cannot blame this on us?” the official told Nairobi News.

In the meantime, Leopards players are a humiliated and frustrated lot, amid reports that most of them have been locked out of their houses by their landlords.

The club is expected to hold its Special General Meeting on Sunday, December 28, where this subject alongside the conduct of the club officials is expected to dominate.
