Leopards move for Burundian star Hakizimana hits a snag

AFC Leopards move for Burundian youngster Alexis Hakizimana is facing complications, Nairobi News understands.

Hakizimana agreed on personal terms with the Kenyan club two weeks ago in the wake of his publiscised visit to the Kenyan capital.

However, not all has gone according to script since the club released him for national team duty soon thereafter.

According to close sources, the player’s club Atletico are holding out for a sizeable transfer on the premise that he still has a contract for another year.

FELL THROUGH

“But that wasn’t what the player told us. We negotiated and agreed on a deal knowing that he is a free agent even though he didn’t share his release letter with us. This is a very delicate issue that the management is dealing with at a professional level,” a club official told Nairobi News.

Hakizimana’s case is similar to that of another forward, Malian Ismailia Diarra, which fell through days after it was announced he was moving to Leopards from Rwandan side Rayon Sport in June 2016.

Should Hakizimana’s move fall through, as it is increasingly looking, then Leopards face a rush to sign a forward having released Mungai Kiongera and with Ghana hitman Gilbert Fiamenyo reportedly carrying a niggling injury.

Perhaps as a cushion Leopards are said to be in talks with Kenyan forwards Ismail Dunga and Kepha Aswani.
