Leopards hire coach Logarusic

AFC Leopards on Friday appointed former Gor Mahia coach Zdravko Logarusic as the head of the team’s technical bench.

The outspoken coach has signed a two year contract with the club, and will replace Dutchman Pieter de Jongh whose contract was terminated at the beginning of the year.

Logarusic will be assisted by Yusuf Chippo, who has taken the team through the entire pre-season preparations while Willis Waliaula retains his position as team manager.

Confirming this development, club assistant organizing secretary Asava Kadima said that they picked the Croat for his vast experience in African club football management as well as his impressive qualifications.

REMARKABLE TURNAROUND

“He is a good coach who has coached several big teams and we need his experience to realize our ambitions this year. We saw what he did with our rivals (Gor Mahia) during his stint in Kenya, and I believe that he is the right man for the job,” Kadima said.

Logarusic first arrived in the country in 2012 when Gor Mahia were struggling in the league but engineered a remarkable turnaround that saw the team finishing second in the league and winning the domestic cup and the Top 8 title that year.

He was however sacked in mid-2013 after failing to agree with the club on terms of engagement. His last posting was with Tanzania’s Simba SC where worked between season before being sacked in August 2014 for poor performance.

Kadima said the new coach will be unveiled at the club offices next week when the team returns from a pre-season training camp in Mumias.
