Lang’ata headteacher grilled over land protest
Lang’ata Road Primary School headteacher was on Thursday questioned by police over the involvement of pupils in the Monday protests that saw police use tear-gas to disperse the demonstrators.
The activists and pupils were protesting against grabbing of the school playground by a private developer.
Mr Peter Mugo was grilled for two and a half hours by CID officers at Lang’ata Police Station.
The police wanted to know whether he had notified the authorities of the demonstration and his involvement in the incident, which left five pupils injured.
Lucy Njeri, who was among those injured, was admitted to hospital after inhaling tear gas.
VICTIMISATION
On Thursday, Mr Boniface Mwangi, one of the activists, wondered why Mr Mugo was being questioned.
“They may be intending to victimise him over the Monday incident,” he said.
During the interrogation, police were specifically looking for who involved the children in the protests.
“We have talked to the police and informed them that the head teacher had no part in the protest, in fact he was in his office when the chaos started,” Knut Nairobi secretary Macharia Mugwe said.
He said no teacher was involved in the protest and they had provided all the required information to the authorities.
According to the information provided by the head teacher, some MPs and MCAs were at the school as early as 7am.
