February 20th, 2016 2 min read

A healthy sex life is much more than having an attraction and the right hormones. It is a combination of a horde of things. Luckily, most of them you have control over. Here is a look into habits that you unknowingly indulge in which are hurting your sex life:

1. Criticizing your body – Women are their own worst critics, that’s a fact. The average woman will put herself down several times a day. This is bad for your self-esteem. If you do it loudly, it may begin to affect how your partner sees you. He probably doesn’t notice your belly but if it’s all you talk about, then he can’t help it.

2. The cluttered bedroom – I am not saying that everybody ought to be a perfectionist in order to have a healthy sex life. The truth is that a room with too many distractions like the television or clothes and toys lying around is not ideal for sexual intimacy. De-clutter your bedroom.

3. Sleeping with your little ones – A lot of married couples are guilty of this one. Even when they have enough space in their homes for children to have a cot or bed in their own room, they allow their babies to sleep in their bed. This is a big passion killer.

4. Open bedroom windows – Yes, you read that right. A cold bedroom will make for a poor sex life. Cold feet especially are a big passion killer. Keep you windows closed and if you live in a colder area, put some socks on your feet.

5. Sacrificing sleep – If you are one of these women that regularly wake your man up for some intimacy in the middle of the night, you need to stop. For a healthy sex life, both you and your significant other need to get some adequate sleep. Lack of sleep leaves you feeling unenergetic.

6. Not drinking enough water – When experts say that you ought to drink at least 8 glasses of water, they have a horde of reasons. Dehydration is a leading cause of vaginal dryness. If you want to enjoy intimacy then you need to drink up.

7. Heavy late dinners – When you live in a fast paced city like Nairobi, meal times during the day are hurried. This results in that temptation to indulge at night. What this habit does to your body is make you feel sluggish subsequently killing your sex life. Make a habit of eating your dinner earlier.

8. That extra glass of wine – Red wine is an aphrodisiac. This however is only true up to a certain level. If you are in the habit of regularly taking more than three or four glasses of wine at bed time, this could be what is killing your libido. When overdone, it will have the opposite effect as when you have just a little to give you a buzz.
