K’Ogalo’s 18 year title wait over

Gor Mahia are the 2013 Tusker Premier League champions after being awarded three points for their abandoned match against Sony Sugar.

K’Ogalo defeated Sofapaka 1- 0 on Wednesday and only needed a point to win the title.

The three awarded points hands them a title they have been chasing for the last 18 years.

According to Gor Mahia Lawyer, Anthony Odhiambo, it would have been unrealistic to give Sony the points based on the evidence that showed Sony players disrupting the match.

There were calls to give Sony the points after a section of Gor Mahia fans attacked Sony Sugar keeper Wycliffe Kasaya and a host of other Sony players during the GOtv clash at Kasarani last Saturday.

“The evidence proves no doubt that Sony Sugar are to blame for the events that led to the match being abandoned and have to take responsibility,” Mr Odhiambo told Nairobi News.

Sony coach Zico Otieno and goalkeeper Wycliffe Kasaya could also be banned for one year if found guilty of assault charges.

Gor last won the title in 1995 and are on course for a double when they play archrivals AFC Leopards in the final of the GOtv Shield on November 16.

They will play against Kakamega Homeboys on Sunday where the championship trophy will be presented.
