K’Ogalo grand march on

What will stop the Green Army from marching forward and clinching the 2013 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) crown?

As K’Ogalo heads for the home stretch and the clock ticks away to the final whistle of the season, every point counts.

Such is the urgency with which Gor Mahia takes to the pitch against bogey side Mathare United in a league fixture at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Wednesday.

Gor has a heavy load on its shoulders, having come so close to winning last year’s title but was snuffed away on the final day.

K’Ogalo needed to beat Thika United to claim victory but the Brookside-sponsored side spoiled the party by standing their ground for a 1-1 draw at the City Stadium in Nairobi.

A collective air of anguish and pain descended on the army. Tears flowed freely as the fans watched in disbelief as the title was yanked away by Tusker.

The players were inconsolable, such is the image that haunts the team as it charges at the elusive  title they last won in 1995.

Humble pie

Coach Bobby Williamson must be musing over possible scenarios of what it will feel like to hold aloft the KPL diadem. But what if – just what if – slippery corners that may force them to eat humble pie one again?

Sacked Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic inspired the magic that propelled the once-struggling Gor to a sharp and threatening team, but failed at the hour it mattered most.

This is a painful chapter that Englishman William will strive to erase. Gor beat Chemelil 1-0 last weekend.

Dan Sserunkuma scored the goal.
