Kim Kardashian’s step dad declares himself a woman
Kim Kardashian’s stepfather and former Olympian Bruce Jenner on Friday confirmed that he is a transgender woman in a candid television interview.
Bruce who was once a great athlete had never come out in the public to declare his change of gender until the Friday ABC News, two hour edition with Diane Sawyer.
“For all intents and purposes, I’m a woman…people look at me differently. They see you as this macho male, but my heart and my soul and everything that I do in life — it is part of me,” he said.
The 65-year-old father of six biological children and four step children had raised a lot of public speculations that he was changing gender.
IDENTITY STRUGGLE
During the ABC interview, Bruce referred to himself in male pronouns as he told the story of his gender identity struggle.
He narrated how at around nine years of age he used to wear a dress from his mother or sister’s closet when they were away but put them back before they come home.
Bruce told ABC’s Sawyer how as an adult cross dressing became part of his life especially when he was away from home.
He stated that his three ex-wives, who include Kris Jenner-Kim Kardashian’s mother, had kept the secret of his gender identity struggle until recently when he told his mother and ten children.
“They all cried. Mainly because they didn’t want anybody to hurt dad…they are very protective of me,” he said.
STILL CALL HIM DAD
Bruce has told his children they can still call him “dad,” but is yet to share the female name he has chosen for himself.
After the Friday interview, his step-daughter Kim on Saturday shared a selfie on Instagram captioning it, “Love is the courage to live the truest, best version of yourself. Bruce is love. I love you Bruce. #ProudDaughter.”
Kim who is married to rapper Kanye West added that as a family they will support Bruce as his honesty will encourage others to live an authentic life.
