Kidnapped child wrote letters to parents

Emotive letters a kidnapped child wrote to her parents shortly before her rescue were found in her captor’s house, a trial court was told on Tuesday.

The six-year-old addressed the letters to her mother and father saying she was missing them but would reunite with them at home.

“Dear mum and dad, I am safe and will come home soon. I am missing you,” a letter dated October 6, read.

A police officer said he found the two letters in a house in Kariobangi where the child had been held hostage as kidnappers demanded Sh 5 million ransom.

Sgt John Shegu  said he recovered the letters and the child at Ms Ranji Wambui’s  house where the girl was being held captive since September 30 after being kidnapped from Mavuno church during a Sunday service.

The girl, according to the investigating officer, wrote when she was idle. She also drew impressions of her parents  and encrypted several  heart signs on the two page missive.

“I recovered two letters written by the child. One was addressed to her mother and the other her father,” Mr Shegu said.

He said he was acting on a tip off.

“We arrested the third and fouth suspect and found the child. She was in Plot 43 and was in the custody of the third accused,” Mr Shegu said.
