Kidero’s loss as Nairobians enjoy free parking due to technical hitch

There are fears that Nairobi County government may have lost millions of shillings Tuesday after the e-pay system motorists use to pay parking fee went down.

The system was not working in the morning hours according to parking attendants who said they collected very little money compared to other normal days.

But the management of JamboPay, a company the county has contracted to manage the e-pay said the system only failed to work for about 45 minutes.

“There was a technical hitch, which lasted for about 45 minutes where one of the channels had failed,” the company’s CEO Danson Muchemi said in a telephone interview’ adding that the problem was later rectified

But one of the parking attendants said the whole of morning they did not collect anything until noon.

“We could not even clamp vehicles whose owners had not paid the fee because most of them complained that the system was down,” the attendant said.

Mr Muchemi, however downplayed the problem saying they expect the system to continue working normally.

There has been no response from City Hall.
