Kidero’s taskforce probing cholera outbreak at Weston Hotel fails to release report
A team of health experts tasked to probe the outbreak of cholera at a top hotel in Naiorbi failed to submit its findings despite the lapse of its 14-days deadline.
The team comprising the national government and the Nairobi County had until Monday to release results of the investigation into the outbreak of cholera at Weston Hotel a fortnight ago.
The hotel on Lang’ata Road is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.
This is the second time City Hall has failed to meet a deadline on its probe into the cholera outbreak at the hotel.
The first time was in a June 27 directive by Governor Dr Evans Kidero to have the report released in two days. The deadline was then pushed to two weeks which elapsed Monday.
Over 50 medical doctors who had attended a conference at hotel are said to have contracted cholera under unclear circumstances.

The taskforce’s chairperson and the County Executive for Health Dr Bernard Muia on Monday said the team is yet to conclude its investigations and will require more days.
“I have nothing tangible to give you now as we are still putting some heads together, the report will be out soon,” said Dr Muia.
Dr Muia added that they conducted tests on samples from the hotel which took time.
In total, 24 samples were taken to the national public health laboratory where six cases where confirmed to be cholera.
Dr Muia added that their mandate was hindered by protocoals and process involved in dealing with the national government.
Meanwhile, Dr Muia has declared Nairobi free of cholera, saying that no cases have been reported over the last two weeks.
Dr Muia added that all food handlers will be tested afresh to avoid a possible outbreak of the disease.
