Kidero’s chief officers questioned over corruption

Nairobi County’s chief finance officer Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba on Friday appeared before the anti-graft agency for questioning over financial dealings at City Hall.

He was the third officer to be questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission after  his deputy Mr Steve Osiro and County Secretary and Head of Public Service Lillian Ndegwa appeared before the team on Thursday.

However, the session never lasted for long after Mr Kiamba said he was not feeling well and needed to see a doctor. The EACC investigators granted him permission to go to hospital.

EACC spokesman Yasin Amaro said investigators were also perusing an alleged corruption dossier it was handed by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko.

The senator took the documents to the County Assembly early this week and demanded action against county chiefs including Governor Evans Kidero over what he termed as corrupt dealings at City Hall.

EMBEZZLEMENT

Mr Kiamba has been under investigation by the anti-graft agency, which last year froze his bank accounts – for him to account for Sh180 million he is said to have kept in different bank accounts.

EACC suspects that the officer may have been involved in embezzlement of public funds.

On Thursday, Mr Kiamba’s Deputy, Steve Osiro and County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Lillian Ndegwa were also questioned by the KACC officials.

“We are getting his final financial statement so that we can sum up our investigations next week and forward his file to DPP (Director of Public Prosecution),” EACC spokesman Mr Yasin Amaro told journalists.

In December last year, EACC) wrote to the County Secretary, Ms Ndegwa asking for Mr Kiamba’s suspension to allow them carry-out their investigations.

The anti-graft agency had complained that the officer’s continued stay in office was a hindrance to the investigations. However, City Hall is yet to heed to the request by EACC as the official is still in office.
