Kidero to miss Cord US trip

Governor Evans Kidero is set to miss a Cord coalition trip to the US.

Instead he is headed to Spain to attend an international forum on water in Madrid City.

This will be the second meet he will have missed, something that is set to further fuel concerns that he is at loggerheads with the party leadership.

Six Cord governors are attending an investment forum in Washington DC, organised by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

When he missed the first trip in July, his explanation was that he would attend the second one.

There were jitters at the time that the perceived snub was because he had fallen out with the ODM party leadership.

Secretary general Anyang Nyong’o was forced to issue a clarification statement.

“Our attention has been drawn to information circulating in sections of the media claiming that governor Evans Kidero is associating with politicians outside ODM and Cord fraternity,” Prof Nyong’o said.

He added that Dr Kidero had not indicated plans to quit the party or the coalition.

In an interview, Dr Kidero, however, said he had permission from Cord top leadership to attend the Madrid forum. He jets out on Thursday.

“Initially, I was among those governors set to accompany our party leader to the US for the investment trip, but it turned out that the Madrid forum materialised at the same time so I sought permission to be allowed to attend it,” he said
