Kidero signs deal to boost fire department

Nairobi County has signed a Sh1.131 billion package with the Belgian government for procurement of firefighting equipment and services.

The deal, a mixed credit facility, is 35 per cent grant and 65 per cent 20-year interest-free loan.

The money will be used to purchase assorted equipment including 9 engines, construction of 2 new fire stations and personal protection equipment sets for 300 fire officers.

Governor Evans Kidero said the equipment, to be sourced from Somati Vehicles, is expected in the next six months.

The county will hire and train 200 fire personnel with assistance from Belgian fire fighters.
