Kidero faces online pressure to repair City Stadium – VIDEO

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is facing increasing online pressure from the public to renovate the City Stadium.

Courtesy of the hashtag #KideroRepairCityStadium, concerned citizens and football lovers have taken to Facebook and Twitter to share their despair over the current state of the dilapidated venue.

Part of the frustration stems from the fact Dr Kidero has in the past severally undertaken to ensure the 12,000 seater venue, located along Jogoo road in Nairobi is repaired, but then seemingly not kept his word.

This past weekend, Dr Kidero’s Deputy Jonathan Mueke also announced, while at the venue that the Nairobi County Government has entered into a partnership with giant gaming firm SportPesa to transform the venue into “a world class sports facility”.

So poor is the current state of City Stadium, that both Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) management have banned any form of top flight football games from being staged at the facility.

Until then the stadium, which is the oldest in Nairobi, was home to SportPesa Premier League giants Gor Mahia, whose fans had christened the venue Tok Komwanda.
