Kidero orders demolition of unapproved South C buildings

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has directed that all illegal buildings in South C be demolished.

He has also ordered that grabbed land in the area be repossessed immediately.

The governor ordered Planning and Lands County Executive Christopher Khaemba to effect the directive within a week.

“We are a country that is governed by the law and therefore we want people to follow the law. We must not allow this practice to go on ” said Dr Kidero.

Governor Kidero was speaking at the Ministry of Works sports club in South C ward where he met over 250 residents.

CHILDREN PLAYGROUNDS

The residents had complained to the city boss about the grabbing of children playgrounds, mushrooming of unapproved structures within the estates, deteriorating security and rampant drug abuse among the youths.

“The main problem is grabbing of public land by private developers who are putting highrise estates, rising cases of insecurity and drug abuse among our youth” South C residents association Ranjanah Raj said.

Ms Raj also complained about the lack of water in the estate. He asked the county management to look for alternatives instead of drilling more boreholes.

South C ward was one of the beneficiaries of the Sh200 million program by the national government and county government to drill 40 boreholes across the county.

DRUG CARTELS

Another resident, Zulekha Abdi, decried excessive abuse of drugs among the youth, which has compromised security in the estate and urged the governor to reign on cartels supplying the illegal substances.

While responding to the drugs issue, Dr Kidero took a swipe at politicians in the city, accusing them of selling the drugs being peddled in the area.

“We must fight this drug menace being perpetrated by people who are seeking leadership posts in the county, “he said without going into details.
