Kidero moves to court to block impeachment motion

Embattled Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Monday moved to court to seek orders stopping a motion to impeach him that was tabled in the County Assembly last week.

In his court papers, Dr Kidero absolved himself from all the allegations leveled against him in the impeachment motion.

He told the court that the motion is malicious, defamatory, vindictive, immoral, irresponsible and purely political in nature with the intention to intimidate him.

CERTIFIED AS URGENT

The application was certified as urgent and will be heard ex parte.

The governor was last week summoned by speaker Alex ole Magelo to appear before the County Assembly on Tuesday  defend himself against the allegations raised in the impeachment motion.

The motion sponsored by Viwandani MCA Samuel Nyangwara has eight allegations against Dr Kidero.

Mr Nyangwara accuses him of misappropriation of county funds, gross misconduct and poor leadership.

The governor is expected to defend himself against claims of soaring county debt, which rose from Sh12 billion when he took office to the current Sh42 billion.

DEBT MANAGEMENT

“Some of the debts were not disclosed in the debt management strategy paper,” the motion paper states.

Mr Nyangwara claims failure to disclose the debts amounts to gross misconduct as it is against the Constitution and the Public Finance Management Act.

The MCA has also accused the governor of flouting procurement laws when he contracted JamboPay to electronically collect revenue on behalf of the county.
