Kidero: Cholera outbreak originated from Vihiga, not Nairobi

Nairobi county health department has come refuted reports that there is a cholera outbreak in Nairobi.

In a press statement, the county on Friday categorically said that Nairobi is safe from the  outbreak.

The county said the victims of cholera incident who attended a wedding in Karen on Saturday and were taken ill were all from Vihiga county.

“They had travelled from Vihiga County and the index case was traced back to Vihiga where the victims travelled from. No case of outbreak has been reported in Nairobi estates, hotels or schools,” read the statement from Nairobi county.

CHOLERA CENTRES

The statement further added that, the Nairobi City County had taken preventive and preparedness measures to do disease surveillance, and set up a team at City Hall and the sub counties who have been reactivated to investigate any possible cases.

The Nairobi City County has also set up six cholera centres in health facilities across the county including Mama Lucy Hospital, Mathare North H/C, Kibera South H/C, Mbagathi Hospital, Kibra South Health Centre and Makadara Health Centre

All these facilities, according to Nairobi City County, are fully stocked with drugs and personnel who are ready to deal with any outbreak should it occur.

City Hall has however appealed to residents of Nairobi to dispose off plastics and avoid dumping as this clogs the drainage and leads to flooding.
