Kidero begs Senate to help recover billions owed by govt

By DENNIS ODUNGA November 10th, 2016 1 min read

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has pleaded with the Senate to save it from financial setbacks from what he terms as the national government’s refusal to pay its debts.

Dr Kidero cited Department of Defence that owes the county Sh61.5 billion, saying the debt has affected the county’s operations.

“The DoD cohesively, forcefully and with abject impunity took possession of 3,000 acres,” Dr Kidero told the Senate legal affairs committee on Thursday morning in parliament.

ENACT LEGISLATION

He said the county can’t eject the military from the land because they have established security apparatus there, for more than 20 years.

Dr Kidero called upon the Senate to enact legislation setting out a procedure for amicable and expeditious resolution of disputes.

This, he said, would avoid lengthy and costly litigations.

Senator Stephen Sang’ (Nandi) who chaired the session, said the Senate is seized of the matter and assure the governor that justice will prevail.
