Kenya’s gold rush continues in London World Championships

The Kenyan foursome of Purity Cherotich, Celliphine Chespol, Hyvin Kiyeng and Beatrice Chepkoech will spearhead Kenya’s hunt for more gold medals at the ongoing IAAF World Championship in London.

These four will line up in the 3,000m steeplechase final at the London Stadium from 11:25pm on Friday night, with the aim of increasing Kenya’s gold haul to four.

The Kenyan athletes will however have to expect serious competition from the likes of Kenyan born Bahrain athletes Ruth Jebet and Winfred Yavi. Others in the race are Ethiopians Birtuken Fente and Argentine Bellen Casetta.

Second placed Kenya is desperate for more medals to keep up pace with table toppers USA.

The USA have managed 19 medals (6 gold, 7 silver, 6 bronze) in total while Kenyan has amassed 7 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze).

South Africa (2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) is meanwhile placed third on the standings followed by China, Poland and Ethiopia respectively.
