Kenyan Prisons mistaken for ‘prisoners’ in Japan

National women volleyball team coach David Lung’aho shared a light moment with international journalists covering the FIVB World Cup, after one of them erroneously referred to Kenya Prisons club as “Prisoners”.

“We are Prisons officers not Prisoners,” Lung’aho, a Kenya Prisons Inspector cum coach of the continental record holders, clarified amid laughter at the conference room.

The journalist in question had wished to be told how “Prisoners had been allowed to come and play at such a tournament without security.”

DOMINANCE

Earlier the same scribe asked “why the Kenyan women volleyball league only had two teams – Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline.”

This forced Lung’aho once again clarify.

“Our league has ten teams but Prisons and Pipeline have been dominating for a long time, that is why they are known all over the world,” the coach said.

The Malkia Strikers squad here consists of six Kenya Prisons officers and six players from the KVF title winning Kenya Pipeline.
