Kenyan league ranked lowly in global survey

The Kenyan Premier League has been ranked 109th in the world in a survey by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

The month-long study was conducted in early 2015 among 170 top flight football competitions world wide.

According to a report on www.iffhs.de, the ranking was determined on the basis of all national (championship, FA Cup) and (inter)continental (confederations & FIFA club competitions) results of clubs in respective countries.

WORLD’S STRONGEST LEAGUE

Although KPL fares slightly better than Harambee Stars’ 126th ranking on the latest Fifa rankings the Kenyan league is placed below Burundi (106), Vietnam (100), Iraq (92) and Sudan (90) leagues.

The Kenyan league however fares better than the Rwandan (111), Ugandan (112), Botswana (121) and Togo (139) leagues.

The Spanish league has been ranked the strongest in the world for the second year running, thanks to the exploits of top clubs Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last year. Another Spanish club Seville won the Europa League title in 2014 and 2015.

The Italian, English, Argentina and German leagues, occupy the other top five positions in that order.
