Kenya Volleyball Federation falls for fake Museveni tweet

The Kenya Volleyball Federation was on Sunday duped into accepting a “congratulatory” message from President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for the national women’s team success at the FIVB Grand Prix.

It however turned out that the post actually emanated from a parody account similar to that of the Ugandan leader.

KVF later pasted the “congratulatory” statement on its official Facebook page.

The parody name with the address @yoweri_museveni is similar in most aspects, including the profile picture, to Museveni’s real account, @KagutaMuseveni.

The Parody account has 1032 followers, while Museveni’s real account has 128,000.

Other influential leaders who churned out verified congratulatory statements through social media following this historic victory were Deputy President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hassan Wario, his Foreign Affairs counterpart Amina Mohammed and continental volleyball (CAVB) President Emr Alwani.
