Kenya Power clarifies on whistle-blowing tender that no one understood
Kenya Power on Tuesday advertised a public tender that left many people confused.
The utility firm invited bids from firms that can provide secure whistle-blowing services in its effort to fight graft
The services must enable whistle-blowers report issues of corruption in a highly secure as well as anonymous manner.
It will focus on “misconducts including misuse of public property, conflict of interest, nepotism, favoritism and discrimination in recruiting, training and promoting staff, soliciting and accepting bribes, receiving gifts, making false claims, lack of professionalism, failure to observe laid down procedures and regulations in procurement and disposal of public goods and assets, misappropriation of public funds, leaking confidential information and abuse of privileged information”.
But most Kenyans couldn’t make sense of the initial advertisement and took to social media to seek answers.
On Wednesday, the company was forced to issue a clarification on the tender.
“We are putting in place an online anonymous reporting mechanism to promote ethical culture and we are the process of procuring the services of an independent professional firm to effect this. Apologies for the confusion arising from tender advert,” it said.

The company however did not indicate the tender period and the cost implications.
