Kenya face Samoa in Bowl semi-final

Kenya rallied from behind to edge out Portugal 17-7 to set up a meeting with Samoa in the Bowl semi-final of the USA Sevens in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

After beating Canada 22-21 and losing to Argentina 14-19, Kenya were to lost their final pool match 14-21 against England to drop to Bowl tournament.

Felix Ochieng’s charges found themselves trailing against the Portuguese after Aderito Esteves scored under the posts.

Andrew Amonde would turn on the style with a speedy riposte as Kenya trailed 5-7 at the break.

Then Billy ‘The Kid’ Odhiambo would exhibit some individual brilliance to turn the Portuguese defence inside out with his tantalizing run to score.

BUNDLED OUT

Kenya enjoyed the display in their opponents’ half as Lavin Asego scored at the death. Samoa thumped Brazil 26-7 to reach the Bowl final.

The last time Kenya met Samoa was at the Wellington Sevens pool stage where they won 28-14 to reach the first Cup quarters this season.

Hosts USA will meet New Zealand in the Cup semi-finals after defeating North American rivals Canada 20-0, their first semi final since the 2010 Adelaide Sevens. The All Blacks bundled out Australia 28-7.

Series leaders South Africa face Fiji in the other Cup semis after they whacked England 21-14. The Fijians steamrolled over France 31-12.
