KDF spokesman says he is fine amid concern by family

Military spokesman Colonel Joseph Owuoth has allayed fears on his whereabouts moments after his immediate family had claimed that he is missing.

Colonel Owuoth told Nairobi News that he is “fine and at work”.

“I’m okay and I don’t know where these reports are coming from. I’m okay and at work,” said Col Owuoth.

Earlier, his sister, one Elizabeth, told journalists in Kisumu that Colonel Owuoth has been missing since Monday morning.

Elizabeth was accompanied at the press briefing by Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong’o who claimed that Colonel Owuoth was sent on “compulsory leave and ordered to go back to his rural home in Koru” after confirming the authenticity of military letters leaked by Nasa leaders last week.

ANARCHY

Last Friday,  Nasa flagbearer Mr Raila Odinga and his running mate Mr Kalonzo Musyoka claimed that they had elaborate information detailing how the government planned to use the military to “create a state of anarchy to ensure Jubilee stays in power”.

According to them, the plans include cutting of power and water and then using force to isolate settlements such as Mathare and Kibra slums on Election Day.

They also said Jubilee intends to use the military to inflate voter numbers to near 100 per cent turn out in Central Kenya.

KDF spokesman Joseph Owuoth said the documents that Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka referred to were authentic but leaked.

“It is normal procedure quoted out of context,” Mr Owuoth, who also promised a more comprehensive statement, said.
