Kasarani stadium to be elevated into an arts centre

Kasarani Safaricom Stadium will soon be elevated to an international arts centre, the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture has announced.

Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hassan Warrio says his office is working on a concept paper for the upgrade.

Dr Wario cited the Kenya@50 celebrations, held at a cost of Sh500 million as one of the achievements of his ministry.

To address the issue of drug abuse among athletes that had dogged the docket, he said an anti-doping agency would be set up in Nairobi.

In line with the Constitution, he said that 80 per cent of the technical staff in the ministry had been deployed to the counties to develop sports.

Additionally, he said that 24 per cent of cultural staff had also been sent to the counties.

He said his ministry would ensure that all libraries, including the Kenya National Library Services in Upper Hill were digitised to make them e-libraries. An e-learning pilot programme was already underway in Kibera, he said.
