July 18: Nearly 700 people test positive for Covid-19

Kenya has today recorded the highest number of Covid-19 infections after 688 people tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, on Saturday, said that the total number of infections now stands at 12,750.

Kagwe gave the daily Covid-19 briefing in Embu County, where he also inspected the county level of preparedness on the rising cases of coronavirus infections.

In terms of gender, 425 are male while 263 are female. The youngest is a seven-month-old infant while the oldest is 95.

The CS says Nairobi has a total of 7,298 Covid-19 cases, followed by Mombasa with 1,812 and Kiambu 725.

Tana River County has recorded its first case of Covid-19 bringing the total number of counties that have registered infections to 44.

“I am also delighted to inform you that today 457 patients have recovered from the disease. From this figure 401 have been under home-based care while 56 were discharged from the various hospitals. Total number of recoveries is now 4,440,” Mr Mutahi said.

“However, on a sad note, we have lost three patients due to the disease and therefore to date we have now lost 225 people to Covid-19.”

Kagwe urged Kenyans to continue observing the prevention guidelines to help beat further spread of coronavirus.
