Judge withdraws from Sh7m bribery case against top City Hall official

High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola has disqualified himself from hearing and determining a case in which Nairobi County Chief of Staff George Wainaina had sought to stop his prosecution over an attempt to bribe Senator Mike Sonko.

The Sh7 million bribe was reportedly meant to induce Senator Sonko to drop a complaint over corrupt and fraudulent activities of some officers of the Nairobi county government.

Justice Lenaola on Monday cited three annoying messages he had received over the case as his reason for disqualifying himself.

The Judge had earlier issued order halting the prosecution of Mr Wainaina. The order still remains in place.

He directed that the matter be heard and determined by Justice Joseph Onguto on February 23.
