Jubilee Party clears Sonko to run for governor

Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko, has been cleared to contest for governorship in Jubilee Party primaries after uncertainty about his papers.

Sonko had on Thursday alleged a “boardroom plot” to lock him out of the city’s gubernatorial race moments after he received his certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The flamboyant senator was forced to upload copies of his certificates online after claims that he did not have education documents.

There were claims that former presidential candidate, Peter Kenneth, was the preferred candidate for the powers that be, hence Sonko’s frustration.

FREE AND FAIR

Sonko’s presentation of papers to the party headquarters coincided with that of another gubernatorial aspirant Dennis Waweru.

Shortly after the presentation of papers, Jubilee Party secretariat head Raphael Tuju confirmed that the party has received nomination papers for gubernatorial post from Sonko, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Denis Waweru on Friday.

“It is the commitment of the two leaders of the party, the president and the deputy president that we must have free and fair nominations of our candidates in Nairobi,” said Mr Tuju.

Mr Kenneth had earlier presented his nomination papers amid claims that his competitors were being frustrated to drop out.
