Jubilee MPs endorse Wiper candidate for Embakasi South seat

Jubilee MPs have endorsed Wiper Party’s Julius Mawathe in the upcoming Embakasi South by-election.

The legislators, Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Charles Njagua (Starehe), George Theuri (Embakasi West) and Simon Mbugua (EALA) were on Tuesday pictured alongside Mawathe.

Also in the picture are former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu.

Kuria, on his Facebook page explained that since Jubilee Party will not field a candidate in the upcoming by-election he had resolved to support Mawathe to retain his seat.

“Jubilee Party will not field a candidate in the forthcoming Embakasi South by-elections. As such in the spirit of the handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative, myself and like minded leaders, in our individual capacities, have today resolved to support Hon Musili Mawathe (Wiper) to retain his seat.

“Hon Jaguar (Starehe), Hon George Theuri (Embakasi West) , Hon Simon Mbugua (EALA) , Hon Makali Mulu (Kitui Central) and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama joined me in wishing Hon Mawathe a successful campaign,” he wrote.

Theuri uploaded photos of the same legislators captioning; “Embakasi South team Mawathe loading.”

The Orange Democratic Movement had last week urged Wiper Party not to field a candidate in the spirit of coalition partners in the National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition.

Wiper responded by urging ODM to be ready for a bruising battle.

ODM candidate Irshad Sumra successfully petitioned Mawathe’s win at the Supreme Court and the two are set to battle it out on April 5.
