Here is John Mututho’s running mate, a 26 year-old school teacher

Nakuru County gubernatorial aspirant John Mututho on Monday unveiled his running mate, 26 year-old high school teacher Maureen Chebet.

The former Nacada chairman says he settled for Ms Chebet, a CRE/Kiswahili teacher at Menengai Secondary School in Rongai constituency, because she connects with issues affecting the youth in the county.

“My running mate is youthful and will help me address key issues touching on the youth who form the highest percentage of the Nakuru population,” he told journalists at the Rift Valley Sports Club in Nakuru Town .

Mr Mututho, a former Naivasha MP, highlighted several issues that he intends to do as Nakuru Governor. Among them is the revival of collapsed of industries and provision of a conducive environment for businesses.

He has promised to help revive the collapsed Karuturi flower firm and ensure the flower industry in the county is revived.

“I will ensure the management of flower firms is revitalized,” he said.

Mr Mututho has accused the current administration under Governor Kinuthia Mbugua of abandoning and neglecting hawkers.

He says he will build them an ultra- modern hawkers’ complex complete with a parking lot.

His running mate hails from Kuresoi South constituency.

She says her priority is to address challenges facing the youth in the county, including unemployment.

Ms Chebet says she grabbed the opportunity after Mr Mututho announced he needed a female running mate aged between 28-35 years last year.

“Overwhelming demands from residents who saw my capability stirred my interest to back Mututho,” she told Nation.

She is confident her age will not be a hindrance to performing her duties. An orphan and a single mother of one, Ms Chebet wants to be governor when she turns 35.

“I want to speak for orphans, women, youth and the down-trodden,” she said after being unveiled.

Other aspirants for the governor’s seat include former National Transport and Safety Authority and former Nakuru Town MP Lee Kinyanjui, Nakuru senator James Mungai and Rev Lawrence Bomet- a former member of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, (NCIC).
