Johanna talks up Kenya’s Afcon chances

Eric Johanna believes Kenya can still qualify for the next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon despite a slow start in the qualifiers.

Johanna, who plays for Swedish side Vasalund IF, spoke to Nairobi News after scoring in the national team’s 1-1  draw against Mozambique in an international friendly played in Maputo on Saturday.

“We conceded first while playing away, that automatically means we had to work harder to get something in the game,” the former Mathare United midfielder explained.

OPENING MATCH

Kenya lost its opening match of the 2019 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers away to Sierra Leone in a Group F fixture.

But Johanna believes the recent change in rules by the Confederation of African Football to allow two teams from each group to qualify will work in Kenya’s favour.

“We have a chance (to qualify) but then there is work to be done. Win all our home games and draw atleast one away match.”

Besides Sierra Leone, Kenya the other teams in Group F are Ethiopia and Ghana.
