Jesse Were scores another KPL hat trick


Jesse Were grabbed his third straight hat trick in the Kenyan Premier League on Friday evening as Tusker trounced Thika United 4-0 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County.

Speaking after the match, the Kenya international asserted that he is the “present and future” of Kenyan football.

“My recent performances are as a result of extensive training, hard work and discipline, plus the trust and help from my teammates and technical bench. I am confident of leading the national team in the upcoming assignments,” the former Mathare United player said.

LEADING SCORER

Were tops the league’s scorers’ chart with 19 goals, a tally that is more than what any other player has managed in the league over the past seven seasons. He is also closing in on the unofficial record of 26 goals scored by Boniface Ambani and Maurice “Sonyi” Ochieng’.

Midfielder Kevin Kimani scored the other goal that ensured Francis Kimanzi’s team leapfrogged AFC Leopards into third position on the league standings with 35 points from 20 matches.

In another match played at the same venue, visiting Western Stima drew 2-2 with Ushuru FC.

Moses Arita scored twice for Ushuru while Baron Oketch and John Kiplangat were on target for Henry Omino’s Stima.

Following the result, Stima remain seventh on the log with 29 points from 20 matches, one position above Ken Kenyatta’s Ushuru.
