The father of musician Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, has sued a water company after he broke his leg when he fell into a manhole in Nyeri Town.

Mr David Kanyi said he fell into the manhole as he walked to the bus stage on October 1, 2008.

The secular musician’s father is seeking compensation for the injury and for medical treatment from the Nyeri Water and Sewerage Company.

He is demanding Sh95,885 for injuries and medical expenses and a further Sh50,000 for future medical care on the fractured leg.

His lawyer, Mr Muhoho Gatimu, said the case had dragged on for so long as the water firm had never brought witnesses to court.

EXCUSES

“The firm has been giving excuses, saying former officials who were witnesses moved to other companies and that they looking for other witnesses,” he said.

The magistrate handling the case had also been transferred, resulting in fresh hearings.

Principal Magistrate Philip Wambua directed the water firm to produce new witnesses and statements within a month.

He also said the firm should file all the documents it intended to use in the case.

The magistrate then ordered that the case be mentioned on April 2 when the court will confirm that all documents have been filed pending hearing.

Jaguar is popularly known for his hit song Kigeugeu, which won an award at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards in 2011.

Other songs that catapulted him to stardom include Fanya Mambo, Furaha, Jina Langu, Nikuskize, Nimetoka Mbali, Nimevuma, Tayari and Unaniwasha.
