Iranian passenger in shock after losing Sh750K at JKIA


An Iranian has reported to police that Sh 750,000 disappeared from his bag at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Mehrah Hassan, 30, said he arrived from Qatar aboard flight 1335 on Wednesday and was carrying US$7,500 in his bag.

“He was profiled and cleared by Immigration officers. He proceeded to the forex bureau to change the money. But when he opened the bag he found a bundle amounting to US$ 100 (Sh 10,000),” police said.

It added: “Scene was visited, no arrest or recovery was made.”

Separately, a Ugandan student died in hospital following an attack by a gang in Embakasi, Nairobi.

Mr John Brown Adong, 22, a second year student at East African School of Aviation in the area, was beaten up on April 30.

He was admitted to Nairobi West Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on Wednesday.

School records showed he comes from Iriaga Ward, Laroo Division, Gulu municipality in Uganda.

In another incident, Anti-Terrorism police are holding an Ethiopian teenager who was arrested while attempting to enter Windsor Hotel.

The seventeen-year-old was arrested by security guards at 5 pm on Wednesday.

“On interrogation, he could not give a clear and satisfactory account regarding his mission at the hotel,” police said.
