Insurance broker charged with theft of Sh800k from governor’s wife
An Insurance broker has been charged with stealing over Sh800,000 from the wife of Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi entrusted to him to buy premiums.
Mr Harrison Chege Kariuki, an agent of AIG Insurance Company, was accused of stealing Sh826,212 at Online Insurance Company Offices at Salama House along Mama Ngina Street on diverse dates between December 16,2014 and July 28 this year.
The charge stated that, Mr Kariuki, had been entrusted the money by Mrs Eunice Wamunyu Ndathi.
The prosecutor, Mr Duncan Ondimu, informed senior principal magistrate Ms Joyce Gandani that the money was meant to pay for eight insurance premium policy number allocated to Mrs Ndathi.
THEFT OF CHILDREN
The policies for the eight were being held by AIG Insurance Company Limited.
A second charge against Mr Kariuki read that he allegedly stole Sh40,800 entrusted to him by Mr John Gituku Githuku the holder of Insurance Policy Number 012060335 to pay for premiums held by AIG Insurance Company.
The accused was released on a cash bail of Sh200,000 until January 18,2016.
At the same time a woman accused of stealing three under age children, among a seven month old baby, has been remanded in custody.
Isabella Wambani Walubengo alias Mutenyo Walubengo Davis was ordered to be detained at the Langata Women’s Remand Prison pending determination whether she will be admitted to bond.
BIOLOGICALLY RELATED
Walubengo who is married to an American citizen was arrested at Ukunda with three children one aged seven months and two aged one and half years each.
Police who could not establish immediately where the children were stolen from handed them over to Mswambweni Childrens Officers.
Mr Ondimu applied to have a DNA test carried out to establish whether they are biologically related to the accused.
Mr Ondimu applied to have her remanded in custody until on Thursday when he will advance compelling reasons to have her denied bond.
She is accused of stealing the children on diverse dates between May 23, 2015 and November 16, 2016.
