Police boss orders arrest of Ruto pilot who assaulted policewoman
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet on Tuesday morning ordered the arrest of Deputy President William Ruto’s pilot who was captured on tape assaulting a female police officer in Nyandarua.
“I ordered this morning for the arrest of that pilot who bullied our officer. That behaviour is totally unacceptable,” said Mr Boinnet.
In the video, the well-built pilot is seen approaching female Corporal of Police who was with her male colleague. Shortly after, charges at the female officer, forcing standers-by to raise their voices in a bid to scare him off.
DP Ruto had earlier also directed the police to investigate the incident where the pilot he hired, Captain Alister Brown, was involved in a scuffle with the officer.
RUTO RESPECTS OFFICERS
Mr Ruto said that he respects Kenya’s hardworking police officers.
The Airbus AS 350 helicopter was hired by DP Ruto on Sunday for a prayer service in Ndunyu Njeru in Kinangop.
The National Police Service spokesperson George Kinoti said that the attack was not justified at all and that investigations had been launched.
“Following the unfortunate incident that took place in Ndunyu Njeru in Nyandarua…, where an alleged pilot is captured assaulting a female police officer in uniform, the Inspector General of Police Mr Joseph Boinnet has ordered investigations with immediate effect and commencement of criminal proceedings against the suspect,” Mr Kinoti said in a statement.
SURRENDER TO POLICE
“The suspect has subsequently been ordered to surrender to any nearest police station.”
Records indicate that the 2015 Airbus H125, manufactured by Airbus Helicopters registration number 5Y-DSN, was bought last year.
Section 103 of the National Police Service Act provides a fine not exceeding Sh1 million or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or to both for any person who assaults or obstructs a police officer in the due execution of the police officer’s duties.
