IG Boinnet names officers arrested over lawyer’s murder
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has released the names of three police officers arrested over the killing of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri.
The three officers are Senior Sergeant Fredrick Leliman, Corporal Stephen Chebulet and Constable Silvia Wanjiku.
Mr Boinnet also rejected claims by civil societies and politicians that the police sanction extrajudicial killings.
He vowed to ensure that those responsible for the killings are held to account.
On Friday evening, the Law Society of Kenya chair Isaac Okero demanded the resignation of senior police bosses Inspector-General Joseph Boinnet, Deputy Inspector-General Samuel Arachi and Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery over the killings.
Lawyers vowed to down their tools for a week over the killing of their colleague.
