IEBC: political parties are free to set up parallel tallying centre

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has made a u-turn and said political parties and media houses can monitor and tally election results for their own reference.

Mr Chebukati however maintained that only IEBC can announce results.

The chairman on Thursday said the matter had been “amicably resolved”.

Mr Chebukari said that political parties shall deploy agents at polling centers in line with law.

He spoke after a meeting with the National Super Alliance (Nasa) principals at the commission’s headquarters situated at the Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.

The chairman later told the press that they had “very fruitful discussions”.

COMPARE RESULTS

Nasa co-principal Raila Odinga has maintained that the opposition will set up a parallel tallying center to compare the results announced by IEBC.

Jubilee leaders have opposed the plan, saying it is a recipe for chaos.

The opposition says it will have agents in all polling stations who will be required to take pictures of the results and send to Nasa’s national tallying centre in Nairobi via WhatsApp.
