IEBC begins the tallying of presidential votes


The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has started tallying the presidential votes.

 

By 7:30pm, the results of 293 out of 40,883 polling stations were already displayed on the portal by the time of publishing.

Out of the votes counted by that time; 34667 were valid, one disputed and 1096 rejected.

By the same time of publishing, President Uhuru Kenyatta was leading in the 293 stations with 21,925 votes, Raila Odinga with 12,238 votes followed by Japheth Kavinga (327 votes), Mohamed Dida (53 votes), Joseph Nyaga (51 votes), Ekuru Aukot (40 votes), Cyrus Jirongo (18 votes) and Michael Wainaina (15 votes).

The results portal will keep updating the figures as they come in from the remaining 40,590 polling stations come in.

Polling stations that opened on time closed at 5pm while those that experienced delays had their time extended by the respective hours they delayed.

IEBC had also stated that the voters who will still be on the queues by closing time will be allowed to vote.
