Relief for motorists as petrol price drops

Motorists got another reason to smile after the Energy Regulatory Commission slashed prices by between Sh2.83 per litre for Super Petrol and Sh2.77 for diesel.

A statement sent to newsrooms said the price of kerosene had also been reduced by Sh1.23 per litre with a directive that the changes take effect immediately.

ERC Director-General Joseph Ng’ang’a said that they had taken the move after the cost of importation for petrol products went down.

“Petrol marketing companies and dealers are reminded that it is an offence to sell petroleum products above the maximum prices as published and anyone found contravening the directive is liable to a fine of up to Sh1 million with the risk of having their licences withdrawn.

Mr Ng’ang’a said that ERC had received complaints about people who extorted money from petrol station operators for alleged non-compliance.

He told the dealers to report such cases to the ERC.

Super Petrol in Nairobi will retail at Sh90.46 and Diesel at Sh79.66.
