Hundreds of NTSA staff affected in latest reorganization
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a major shake-up of its top management which has affected 227 staff members.
In a statement, the board has said the changes are aimed at improving efficiency in the delivery of services by the agency.
The reorganization includes the transfer of 227 employees from the motor vehicle inspection and registration departments.
NTSA Chairman Jackson Waweru said that in the coming weeks, they will be advertising key management positions aimed at improving their capacity to meet stakeholder expectations.
“The positions to be filled are Director Registration and Licensing, Director Road Safety, Deputy Supply Chain, Deputy Director Motor Vehicle Inspection, Manager Supply Chain and Manager ICT,” the statement reads.
DOUBLE REGISTRATION
The statement further state that the board is committed to orienting the authority towards increased levels of accountability and performance; and to execute sustainable measures for enhancing efficient, reliable and safe roads in Kenya.
The changes come a month after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i disbanded the previous board and appointed a new six-member team.
The six include John Ndege Obwocha, Catherine Njeri Waweru, Alice Chepchumba Chesire, Francis Kirinya Mwongo, Moses Nderitu Gachemi, and Meshak Kidenda.
In January detectives raided NTSA offices seeking answers on double registration of vehicles.
The raid came days after an insurance official was arraigned in court alongside 16 others over the January 8 Dusit D2 terror attack in Nairobi which left 21 people dead.
SUSPECTED TERRORISTS
The attack reignited the debate on vehicles bearing duplicate number plates in the city after it emerged that there was another car with the same registration.
After the attack, detectives from the DCI department stormed Geojoska Apartments where the owner of car registration KCN 340E lived.
Another vehicle with a similar registration was used to ferry the suspected terrorists to 14 Riverside Drive premises where the attack took place.
NTSA is mandated with the task of vehicle registrations in the country.
Several officers are currently facing charges in relation to illegal and double registration of cars.
